Where to store in cloud? and When to store?

Well still cloud security is major concern but if we segregate our data based on sensitivity we can take the advantage of online storage. Still on line storage is not as cheep as they say but some of them getting free we can make use of them.

Getting 1 TB of online space from Google, for instance, will cost $256 (about Rs 13,000) a year. This is the annual fee, which means the recurring expense will be more in the long run. On the brighter side, most online services come with a certain amount of free storage, which is often sufficient for those who just need to store a few documents. if we purchase 1TB seagate or lomega it cost less than $150 only.

For instance, Windows Live SkyDrive offers 25 GB of free storage, Google Docs and Box.com allow you 1 GB of online storage, while Dropbox lets you store 2 GB of data free of cost. However, you will need to use the Internet to access your cloud storage, and this will cost you money.

As part of the AWS Free Usage Tier, you can get started with Amazon S3 for free. Upon sign-up, new AWS customers receive 5 GB of Amazon S3 storage, 20,000 Get Requests, 2,000 Put Requests, and 15GB of data transfer out each month for one year.  check their price tags : http://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/ ; if we compute the recurring usage per year; we will loose lot of money from our pocket.

i felt they need to change their strategy to bring storage as a service model to get wide acceptance.
